IL CECE NEL SECCHIO (THE CHICKPEA IN THE PAIL) takes the shape of a simple question: what makes any given behavior, thought or way of being….normal or else crazy? What’s the difference between the concept of normality and that of abnormality? This difference is often determined by the conventions that are established among human beings, founded upon the expectation that other individuals behave in the way that is normal for us or the way that is statistically most frequent, or else, by the traditions and culture of the society to which the individual belongs, or even by the fear of what is unknown, of that which must first be understood and then accepted as normal. Symbolically the chickpea in the pail is nothing other than a bit of wisdom in a circumscribed space. The chickpea- wisdom unconditioned by ways and cultures, the source of absolute truth and the pail – the container of such wisdom, not so impossible to explore.
