Proudly different
A true unicum in dance training worldwide, the program is grounded in Loris Petrillo's teaching methodology, developed and enriched through more than 25 years of experience.
Many of the dancers who have completed a training program under his direction have gone on to pursue professional careers in some of Europe's most renowned companies.
Going far beyond the simple acquisition of techniques, the method draws on cross-disciplinary study and principles derived from humanistic medicine, philosophy, mathematics, physics and anatomy.
Not a style, nor a technique, but a results-driven physical training built on clear, progressive steps that prepare you to navigate the many languages of contemporary dance that exist today.

There is no deadline for submitting applications, registrations close when the expected number of participants is reached. That’s why, since the course is limited and sold out every year, we recommend that you apply as soon as possible to book your place.
A path to freedom

SPECIFIC trains dancers who are in full command of their own body, technically prepared, physically strong and with a remarkable physical and expressive impact.
During the program, dancers approach the study of movement through the exploration of the infinite possibilities of the body, in a specific and gradual process that accompanies them on a journey of self-discovery and towards their full potential.
The method urges dancers to rediscover the infinite and extraordinary possibilities suggested by the Universe, guiding them towards a higher level of performance by moving away from the rote learning of pre-established and ineffective dance concepts.
It is not a new technique, nor a new style. It is a more concrete approach that invites dancers to broaden their perspective when facing different technical challenges. As a result, they can move away from lifeless techniques that restrict and limit their freedom of expression.
It is a process of awareness through which dancers develop an autonomous management of their own body — conceived as a 'machine' — subject to ongoing attempts to overcome technical difficulties.
Self-experimentation is the only proof of functionality: if applying a specific notion leads to an effective result, then it works and can be adopted.
Dancers now have at their disposal a wide range of universally applicable notions that allow them to handle their bodies with greater freedom. Once these universal rules are established, dancers are called upon to engage fully — bringing in their emotional range as a necessary component of the body-machine. It is through this process that the unique and personal character of each dancer shapes and colours the movement, infusing it with wholeness, concreteness and their own essence.
A truly original dance — impossible to categorise within the landscape of existing styles, yet intrinsically linked to the true nature of that specific dancer on stage.
Opportunities

At the end of the first year, among those who advance to the second year, up to a maximum of 8 dancers will be selected to:
- join PYC Company directed by Loris Petrillo;
- join Compagnia Petrillo Danza directed by Loris Petrillo;
- access the summer internship with Twain Centro di Produzione Danza directed by Loredana Parrella;
- join Cie Twain Physical Dance Theatre directed by Loredana Parrella;
- access the multidisciplinary advanced training path Bo.A.T., curated by Anonima Teatri, focused on contemporary theatre and dramaturgy.
In the third year, the direction guides students towards internships at European companies and theatres.

Becoming a dancer
We believe that time is the most valuable resource we have.

We believe that the development of one's uniqueness begins with respecting the rhythms of body and mind in the process of learning new tools and new awareness.
We believe in the dancer's ability to embrace the daily challenges of uncovering their own identity.
We believe that freedom is not doing whatever one wishes without direction, but the skilful expression of one's own know-how — the ability to harness the body's expressive potential not only through the enrichment of one's movement vocabulary, but also through physical and mechanical experimentation and self-knowledge.
Only a body that knows itself is a body free to move.
Timeline
1° year
The dancer rediscovers their own body, questions the techniques they have acquired and begins to explore new possibilities of movement through self-experimentation.
2° year
The dancer gradually builds confidence in the use and application of the tools they have acquired, developing the ability to handle their own body with freedom and autonomy.
3° year
The dancer integrates their emotional world into the movement, giving the dance a unique and personal character. An original dance emerges — an expression of their true nature.

SPECIFIC takes place in Tuscania, a stunning medieval village in the heart of the Viterbo area of Tuscia, in one of Italy's most breathtaking landscapes..
Beyond its stunning natural scenery, Tuscania has become an attractive hub for dance and the performing arts, thanks to:
- the company and training programs of Loris Petrillo (Compagnia Petrillo Danza, PYC Company, and the 3-year program SPECIFIC Training Centre for Contemporary Dancers, SPECIFIC physical performer)
- the activities of Twain Centro di Produzione Danza directed by Loredana Parrella, — one of the most prestigious organisations in the Lazio Region — dedicated to the production, professional training and dissemination of dance, as well as music, theatre and the performing arts.
- The productions and initiatives of Anonima Teatri directe by Yoris Petrillo e Aleksandros Memetaj, supported over the years by Fondazione Carivit, Ministero della Cultura, Regione Lazio, Roma Capitale.
