At SPECIFIC: masterclass with Marco Cantalupo - Cie Linga
During the 24/25 season of SPECIFIC Training Centre for Contemporary Dancers, Marco Cantalupo, director of Cie Linga — a Swiss contemporary dance company with over 30 years of history — led a masterclass for the dancers of the three-year professional contemporary dance program.
During his workshop at SPECIFIC, Cantalupo focused on repertoire work from Cie Linga, giving the dancers the opportunity to engage with the language of the Swiss company he co-directs alongside Katarzyna Gdaniec, currently in residence at the Théâtre de l'Octogone in Pully/Lausanne.
Cantalupo's approach grows out of the encounter between a rigorous international academic training and a search for a more grounded, everyday physicality — a quality that has always been at the heart of Linga's work.
For the SPECIFIC dancers, it was an opportunity to engage with the company's movement vocabulary and put their ability to rapidly absorb new choreographic languages to the test.
How masterclasses shape the SPECIFIC dancers' journey
From their very first year, the SPECIFIC dancers take part in masterclasses that give them the opportunity to assess where they stand in their training and understand how to approach different expressive languages — drawing on the solid foundation they progressively build throughout the three-year program, a foundation that prepares them to quickly meet the choreographic demands they will face in their professional careers
One of SPECIFIC's goals is to enable dancers to develop such a deep understanding of their own abilities that they can approach and respond to choreographic demands with confidence and ease.
